FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I do to support blue carbon conservation?

We will be launching calls to action to mobilise the general public, policymakers and business leaders in the lead up to the release of the film so watch this space!

In the meantime, you can support frontline communities featured in our film in Colombia by donating directly to them via this link. Every dollar donated will be shared across the 14 associations in Cispata Bay and used for vital community projects.

How was the science in the film reviewed and verified?

The science content in the film was reviewed by Richard Stone, Senior Science Editor at HHMI Tangled Bank Studios and the independent science advisor, Patrick Megonigal, senior scientist and Deputy Director at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Centre.

Dr. Emily Pidgeon, Vice President of Ocean Science and Innovation at Conservation International also reviewed the science content of the film.

How was the carbon footprint of the film ‘offset’?

Blue Carbon is a carbon neutral production. The carbon impact of the film was calculated using Albert’s offset calculator.  That offset figure was donated through a certified Albert partner, Ecologi and went towards supporting a Blue Carbon restoration project.

Does Jayda ‘offset’ or compensate for the carbon footprint of her global tours and travel?

Jayda has typically offset her annual carbon footprint through The Gold Standard carbon calculator and offset scheme. However, Jayda doesn’t think offsetting is enough in itself and she wants to do more. As a result of her experience filming Blue Carbon,  she is hoping to establish a Blue Carbon donation agreement, between herself and promoters, built into shows that she is booked for.

Is there a release date for Jayda G’s original track featured in the film?

Jayda G’s original track used in the conclusion of the film - called “Still Be With You” - will be released in 2024 to coincide with the US broadcast of the film on CNN.

How does Jayda see her role in the Blue Carbon message?

Jayda is motivated to use her platform to tell people - especially her audience of younger people - about the importance of Blue Carbon. She says:

“Blue Carbon is so important but people know so little about it - I want it to be as well known as the Amazon rainforest. It has such potential to help us combat climate change, as long as we listen to and learn from the stories of people working to protect Blue Carbon. It’s made me hopeful about our future and has helped me feel more connected with mother nature. I hope that when people watch this film they feel the same way.”

Who financed Blue Carbon, the film?

The film was funded by three broadcasters: CNN Films, NDR and Canal Plus. The other major partner and Co-Producer is HHMI Tangled Bank Studios,  a mission-driven production company that crafts exceptional films where science is a lens for making sense of our world, while inspiring awe and wonder. In addition we received funding and support from Conservation International, as well as Fondation Erol,  and Ocean Born.
